Regulars at New York’s Central Park will never know what came — celebrated, reveled, sang, danced — and left this weekend, thanks to recycling support from EKOCYCLE and Global Inheritance at the Global Citizen Festival.
Global Citizens Fest

This won’t be a small feat, because over 60,000 people are expected to attend this year’s event, now in its 3rd year. EKOCYCLE is thrilled to lead the effort as the Official Recycling Partner, as an extension of our campaign to create #ADayWithoutWaste. Since April, EKOCYLE and Global Citizen have together (with the help of a few friends along the way like MyActions and Global Inheritance) prevented over 1.5 million items from entering a landfill. We’re looking to make that number much bigger this Saturday.

How did we do it?

For starters, we traveled all around the country, attending Global Citizen Nights festivals and SXSW, encouraging recycling and offering rewards to those that do. Our stops took us to The Vic Theatre in Chicago, the Thank You Festival in Maryland and Emo’s in Austin.
Maybe you’ve seen our “Confess Your Waste Crimes” photo booth in social media — it’s our fun way to help each of us examine our personal habits, and to make change for the better. The booth will again be with us in New York this weekend, so be sure to look for us!
We also produce a number of fun videos, including one entitled Waste Less, Love More. Find all our short films at

What’s next?

Our partnership has been hugely impactful to EKOCYCLE and awareness of how waste affects us all — and we’re looking forward to joining Global Citizen as they expand their concert series in 2015.

This year’s Global Citizen Festival, featuring Jay-Z,  No Doubt, Carrie Underwood, Fun., The Roots and Tiesto, will be live streamed at, thanks to a new, stronger partnership with MSNBC.
